Applications / National Safety Month: Jobsite Safety Checklist

June 8, 2021

National Safety Observance

25 years ago the National Safety Council dubbed June ”National Safety Month”. Throughout the construction industry, many of us observe jobsite and workplace safety more closely over the month of June, bringing awareness to potential risks at worksites and how to prevent them. While the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) oversees official safety practices and training programs across many industries, it’s never a bad idea to go the extra mile to ensure you and your crew have a safe work environment.

In honor of National Safety Month, we’ve compiled a jobsite safety checklist in coordination with each week’s topic. Trimaco offers a wide range of products that help promote construction safety and prevent jobsite safety risks.

Week 1: Accident Prevention

There’s no better way to kick off National Safety Month than to talk about prevention. Why put yourself in harm’s way when you can prevent it from the start?

First things first, develop a plan or safety program that sets standards and expectations for everyone on your crew — including subcontractors. Next, protect yourself. In addition to hard hats, and other OSHA standard-type worksite-wear, you can also prevent harm to yourself and your crew by investing in dependable PPE. From high visibility coveralls to ANSI-rated eyewear, prepare for your workday with appropriate personal protective equipment.
coveralls

  • Coveralls:Trimaco offers a wide range of Tyvek Coveralls for various job types:
  • Shoe Covers: In addition to coveralls, protect your shoes and feet with dependable boot covers.
  • Eyewear: Flying particles, chemical and gas exposure are some of the most common jobsite risks. Protect your eyes with ANSI-rated, impact resistant goggles.
  • Respirators: Asbestos, airborne particles, and harmful gases are common job site safety hazards. Take appropriate safety measures to keep yourself safe, and invest in a dependable respirator to prevent these risks, which can cause long term damage to your lungs.

Week 2: COVID-19 Safety

Over the course of the past year, COVID-19 has created a new normal in the world we once knew. Maintaining distance and creating socially distant barriers will continue to be prominent safety standards, especially in work areas. Trimaco offers two different socially distant barrier options:

  • Temporary Modular Wall Systems: Trimaco’s Speedy Room is a modular wall system that provides a quick and easy barricade and social distance solution. Lightweight, corrugated wall panels can create various configurations when used with the Speedy Wall Connectors Kit.
  • Temporary Barriers with Poles & Plastic Sheeting: Typically used for dust containment systems, Trimaco’s E-Z Up Dust Containment Poles can be used with plastic sheeting to also create a quick, temporary social distance barrier.

Week 3: Feeling Safe on the Job

When working on the job, it’s important to promote a safety culture, where crew members feel safe, especially when working on slippery surfaces on a construction jobsite. Invest in fall protection with slip resistant drop cloths, surface protectors and shoe covers can provide peace of mind while on the job site.

  • Slip Resistant Drop Cloths: Designed with a special backing, Trimaco offers a family of slip resistant drop cloths. Great for use on hard surfaces such as hardwoods, tile, vinyl and stairs. All of Trimaco’s slip resistant drop cloths are guaranteed to outperform traditional canvas.
    • Stay Put Canvas Plus: This three layer drop cloth is designed with an absorbent canvas layer to prevent tracking, a plastic middle layer to provide leak resistance, and a grippy bottom layer to reduce slipping.
    • Eliminator: Heavyweight butyl drop cloth provides slip resistance and leak resistance.
    • Smart Grip: The Smart Grip Drop Cloth is a lighter option designed with a non-woven top and a grippy backing.
  • Slip Resistant Surface Protectors: Surface protectors are used to shield and preserve delicate floors. By installing a surface protector that also provides slip resistant protection, it helps create a safe working environment.
  • Slip Resistant Shoe Covers: Prevent slipping and feel safe on the job with Trimaco’s Smart Grip Shoe Covers. Designed with a grippy sole that will not budge.

Week 4: Safety improvement

As jobsite conditions, surfaces and expectations continue to evolve, it’s important to adapt and improve with them, while also addressing new safety issues that arise. At Trimaco we understand the importance of jobsite safety and we are continuously bringing new products to the market to meet the ever changing needs of general contractors, builders, and more.
