Isolation and Quarantine

The novel coronavirus, Covid-19, has forced millions of people in the United States to quarantine in their homes. Recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control have resulted in concerts, sporting events and social activities being canceled, people working from home and non-essential businesses closing in order to slow the spread of disease. As we social distance ourselves to prevent the spread of Covid-19, this time presents a unique opportunity to focus on home projects.

Have you caught up on all the episodes of Tiger King and are now wondering how you can fill your time? Luckily, now is the perfect time for sprucing up your homes and outdoor areas just in time for summer. We’ve put together a list of 5 things you can do while in quarantine at home.

5 Projects You Can Do at Home

1. Spring garden prep

Warmer weather and more time on our hands lends us the opportunity to get outside and get our outdoor space in order. Prep spring gardens by pulling weeds, create beds using leftover flooring paper for summer vegetables and flowers, organize your shed, clean up your deck or create a potting table.

2. Fix those knicks

Most people have spare paint from previous projects stored somewhere in their house. Now’s a perfect time to use that paint to fix knicks and scuffs around your house. You could even use that paint for a DIY home project like painting a door or piece of furniture. Don’t forget your Trimaco dropcloth!

3. Spring clean

Spring is in full swing and with that comes spring cleaning! Swap out your air filters, clean baseboards, declutter, dust fans and organize closets and cabinets. We suggest binging on ‘Tidying Up with Marie Kondo’ to get some inspiration. Self-isolating in a fresh space will give you peace of mind and time to focus on other personal projects.

4. Rearrange

Breathing new life into a room can be as simple as rearranging your furniture. Try out a new layout and see how it gives you a fresh perspective. You may end up loving your freshly arranged living room!

5. Moisturize wooden cutting boards and season cast iron

This is often a project people forget about. Is your old cast iron looking dry? Are your cutting boards cracked and in need of some TLC? First, clean cast iron and cutting boards with salt and lemon to kill germs, then lather them with coconut oil and let sit.

Sheltering in place allows us the opportunity to protect people by slowing the spread of this infectious disease. It also frees us up to conquer projects around our house and make it a more enjoyable place to spend our time.
