What is a painter’s mitt?

A painter’s mitt is a multi-layered, lined glove that you wear to apply paint or stain to oddly shaped or hard-to-reach areas like spindles and handrails.

What are the benefits of a painter’s mitt?

Not all surfaces are created equal, and not all surfaces are easy to paint with traditional paint brushes and paint rollers. Traditional brushes are great for flat surfaces, corners, window trim and baseboards. But what sets the painter’s mitt apart during those tougher jobs?

Paint mitts cover what paint brushes and rollers can’t

We’ve all run into a paint job where a brush or roller just won’t cut it. Whether it’s a railing, fence pickets, furniture, columns, screens, pipes, ornamental baseboards, or staircase spindles, painting with a brush is a hassle and never seems to get the paint in the hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. A paint mitt is a quick and easy paint applicator that can be used to cover those areas.

Paint mitts are time savers

Save time with a painter’s mitt. You can load the mitt with paint or stain and use the whole surface of the glove to apply. This makes painting railings and spindles super quick.

Paint mitts are washable and reusable

Paint gloves can be rinsed out and left to dry, ready for the next paint job. This makes them great for multi-day jobs or just to keep around the house for the next project.

Paint mitts are multi-use

Not only is the painting and staining mitt great for application, but it can also be used for other household tasks and DIY projects. Some of the most common uses include faux finishing walls and ceilings to create depth and texture, as well as using it as a cleaning mitt for dusting the house and washing cars.

How to use a painter’s mitt

Follow these simple steps to ensure a seamless, clean finish:

  1. Remove the mitt from its packaging and brush off any loose fibers.
  2. For smaller jobs, we recommend wiping the surface off with a tack cloth prior to painting. This will remove all dust particles and sawdust after sanding, which ensures a smooth surface and clean finish.
  3. Place the mitt over your hand. These double-sided paint gloves can be used on the right or left hand.
  4. Dip the painting mitt into paint or stain and begin painting! (Make sure not to dip the mitt deeper than the cuff at the wrist or you risk getting paint inside the glove.)
  5. When the paint on the mitt begins to thin, simply repeat step 4 until the job is complete.
  6. Once the paint job is complete, thoroughly rinse the remaining paint out of the mitt. Let dry and reuse when needed.

Multiple types of paint can be used with this time saving mitt, from traditional interior latex and oil-based paint to outdoor stain for decks and furniture. Whatever type of paint or stain you use, the interior plastic lining of the glove will keep your hand dry and protected.
