When you roll out surface protection and tape it down, you expect it to stay put. While FloorShell generally lays flat, temporary floor protection rolls can sometimes curl, making them hard to handle. Despite your efforts, surface protection may roll up creating additional risks on the job.
We understand how frustrating it is when temporary floor protection products don’t stay put. It becomes a tripping and falling hazard if the surface protector curls up. To prevent this, we have gathered expert tips to eliminate curl when using temporary floor protection boards like FloorShell.
Before securing FloorShell to the floor, measure and cut the amount you’ll need to cover your floor. Leave them out while working on something else. This gives it time to relax and lose its memory, making it easier to tape to the floor.
One pro tip that tends to work well is rolling the product back on itself. This helps reverse the curl, by breaking the fibers horizontally, resulting in a flat product. You may have to do this a few times to achieve the finished result.
Seam tapes are specifically designed to work with board products. Due to their contractor-grade adhesion level, they are strong enough to keep seams secured and flat. Our FloorShell Seam Tape is designed to be used specifically with FloorShell. To apply, overlap board edges and smooth tape into place. FloorShell Seam Tape should only be used on seams and never directly on the floor.
To secure surface protection products to the floor or other surfaces, use a tape that is compatible with your surface. We recommend Trimaco 90-day FloorSmart Tape for most surfaces including factory finished hardwood, tile and cured concrete. FloorSmart Tape anchors surface protection products to the floor for 90 days without leaving any residue.
When applying tape to surfaces, please test in an inconspicuous area overnight to ensure compatibility.
Don’t let the curl back of surface protection rolls create additional risks on the job. Utilize these tips and products to reduce curl when using FloorShell, for a smooth and perfect installation every time.
