Are Anti-Static Qualities Important for Flame Retardant Surface Protection?

Share

When choosing a surface protector, it’s important to consider what specific safety aspects are important and necessary on your jobsite. These qualities can be significant, not only for the preservation of your surfaces, but more importantly, for the safety of yourself, crew and others. Some qualities you may want to consider are:

  • Anti-Static
  • Flame Retardant
  • Slip Resistant
  • Leak Resistant
  • Dust Free
  • Impact Resistant
  • Forklift Strong

Why is static dangerous on the jobsite?

ESD (electrostatic discharge) or simply known as static seems harmless, but when the amount of static builds up, it can release dangerous sparks, causing explosions in flammable environments, such as spray booths.

Are anti-static qualities important?

Anti-static properties are critical on a jobsite where static is present. Static is easily formed from materials that have difficulty absorbing and conducting electricity such as plastics like polyurethane, glass, wood and rubber.

When using flame retardant plastic, be aware these surface protectors can contribute to the build up of static electricity in a work space. Therefore, the presence of anti-static features are important in flame retardant plastic, to avoid harmful explosions in potentially flammable areas.
